Three days is the general advice to see the major attractions, though there are so many hidden gems that four to five days suits anyone who prefers to relax rather than rush. Short on time? The Longest Day Away package is built for one-day visits.
Wildlife is mostly harmless birds, lizards and fish, along with snakes, spiders and dingoes. Dingoes carry a reputation from rare isolated incidents; adults face minimal risk if they never encourage interaction. Families with small children may prefer dingo-fenced campsites or resorts.
No — the entire eastern beach is a surf beach. Sharks patrol the coastline, strong rips and undertows can sweep out even strong swimmers, and sea stingers are present. Swim in the lakes instead.
Yes. All of K'gari's lakes are safe for swimming, and there are no crocodiles in any of them.
